BACKGROUND:

The owner of the new Best Western Plus at 1200 Wilson Street is applying to the State of Michigan's Liquor Control Commission for a new Class A Hotel license for the property.

This license type allows a hotel with at least 25 guest rooms to sell retail beer, wine, and mixed spirit drink products for consumption on the premises and in the rooms of registered guests. Representatives from the hotel have indicated they plan to sell beer and wine from an on-site sundry store, where guests will be able to purchase drinks.

The State (MCL 436.1501(2)) requires applicants for Class A Hotel licenses to obtain an affirmative recommendation from the local legislative body prior to making application.

This application has been reviewed and approved by the City Police, Fire, Community Development and Finance departments.

FISCAL EFFECT:

None by this action.

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt the attached resolution recommending Michigan Liquor Control Commission approval of a new Class A Hotel license for the Best Western Plus at 1200 Wilson Street.
