BACKGROUND:

The Engineering Division applied for a grant through the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to identify water service line materials at locations throughout the City which are made of unknown materials and, based on age, may possibly be made of lead. This will assist in efforts to complete an inventory of all water service pipes, which is an upcoming EPA and EGLE requirement.

EGLE has tentatively awarded $600,000 to the City of Marquette through this grant. There is no local match required.

FISCAL EFFECT:

None. All contracted expenses will be reimbursed.

RECOMMENDATION:

Authorize the City Engineer to sign the attached grant agreement on behalf of the City of Marquette.

As determined by the Commission.
