New Business PIDP - Protecting Critical Infrastructure and Improving Efficiency Dredging Project - Contract Approval |
| | | | | | | | | BACKGROUND: | The City of Marquette received a grant from the US Department of Transportation Maritime Administration for dredging at the mouth of the Dead River near the upper harbor ore dock. The proposed project will realign and buffer the river outlet to a more favorable location. Dredge sands will be beneficially reused for shoreline stabilization and restoration at various locations between Fair Avenue and Hawley Street. The City is partnering with Cliffs Natural Resources/LS&I Railroad on this project with LS&I funding the non-federal match portion as shown in the attached memorandum of understanding.
The City advertised this project for bids on December 19, 2023. A bid opening occurred on February 1, 2024 with five bidders responding. The results are summarized below.

| | | | | | | | | RECOMMENDATION: | Approve a contract with K&M Industrial, LLC of Gladstone, Michigan at a cost of $980,496.43 based on the quantities and unit prices bid, and authorize the City Manager to use remaining grant funding allocated toward construction with a total amount not-to-exceed $1,480,000 for any unknown circumstances and additional dredging if permitted, and authorize the Mayor and Clerk to sign the Contract. |
