The City of Marquette has reached a new Agreement with the Marquette Firefighters Association.  The bargaining unit has ratified the Agreement. The main issue during negotiations was rates of pay. The parties have agreed to a two-year contract with a $1.50 per hour wage increase for each union position for year one effective today, and a 3% wage increase for year two.  The probationary firefighter rate has been eliminated to bring new firefighters in at the former 12-month rate and bring firefighters to their full rate by one year instead of at their 2-year anniversary. 

The City's bargaining team would like to thank the Marquette Firefighters Association for their willingness to work with us to negotiate an Agreement that is fair to the employees and the City.  

The total cost for the first-year increase to wages is roughly $111,000.  This will require a budget amendment.
