BACKGROUND:

Marquette City Code Chapter 18 - Elections contains only one section, which details the boundaries of the City's election precincts.

As state law (MCL 168.661) and the Marquette City Charter (Sec. 4-1) grant the City Election Board the authority to establish election precincts, this chapter of City Code is unnecessary.

Per City Charter, an ordinance cannot be adopted at the meeting in which it is introduced. This ordinance was originally introduced at the Commission's regular meeting of December 11.

FISCAL EFFECT:

None.

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt Ordinance 726, and authorize the Mayor and Clerk to sign.
