BACKGROUND:

Marquette City Code Chapter 18 - Elections contains only one section, which details the boundaries of the City's election precincts.

As state law (MCL 168.661) and the Marquette City Charter (Sec. 4-1) grant the City Election Board the authority to establish election precincts, this chapter of City Code is unnecessary.

Per City Charter, an ordinance cannot be adopted at the meeting in which it is introduced. This item should be moved to the next regular meeting agenda for the second read.

FISCAL EFFECT:

None.

RECOMMENDATION:

Move Ordinance 726 to the next regular meeting agenda for consideration.

As determined by the Commission.
