DPW Labor Agreement

BACKGROUND:

The City of Marquette has reached an agreement with the Department of Public Works and Utilities Employees' Chapter of AFSCME Local #1852.  The bargaining unit has ratified the agreement. Their original agreement was effective Oct. 1, 2021 with contractual wage reopeners for 2022 and 2023, terminating Sept. 30, 2024; however, the City's bargaining team and the DPW and Utilities unit of AFSCME have agreed on wages for 2023 and extending the contract for two years. The agreed upon wages for the length of the extended contract include increases of 5% for 2023 in addition to a one-time $400 per employee signing bonus, and 3% increases for 2024 and 2025.

The City's bargaining team commends the DPW and Utilities unit of AFSCME for their willingness to work with us to extend the Collective Bargaining Agreement in a way that is fair to the employees and the City.

FISCAL EFFECT:

The total cost for the first year 5% increase to wages in addition to the one-time $400 signing bonus is approximately $152,000. This will require a budget adjustment.

RECOMMENDATION:
