The City of Marquette has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $8 million for the demolition of a portion of the former Marquette General Hospital, owned by the Northern Michigan University Foundation (NMUF). CDBG funds are carefully regulated and have a significant number of guidelines for use and administration. While the City is neither the owner nor the contracting entity for the demolition of the hospital, it is the primary grantee from the State of Michigan and is ultimately the responsible entity for the funds.
In addition to the procurement of a certified grant administrator for this project, the City has also negotiated a development agreement specifically related to the use of the CDBG funds in order to clearly stipulate the terms for the transfer of funds to the NMUF as a sub-recipient of the grant.
