Superior Watershed Partnership – Lease Agreement

BACKGROUND: 

The Superior Watershed Partnership (SWP) has approached the City and Marquette Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to request the use of City property for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations. If approved, charging stations will be installed at the Lakeshore Public Parking Lot, Commons Public Parking Lot, and the Father Jacques Marquette Parking Lot.

 

The term of the lease will be for four years and may be renewed for additional three-year terms upon mutual consent of the parties. The rental rate is $375 per year per charging station, based on usage of five square feet of property, a rate of $6.25/square foot per month. Based on the maintenance and management of the charging stations, the lease revenue for the three charging stations will go to the DDA.

 

The DDA approved this lease at their meeting held on February 9, 2023.

 

The first read of the lease was at the February 13, 2023 City Commission meeting.


FISCAL EFFECT: 

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority will receive $31.25 per month ($375 annually) per charging station during the term of the lease agreement.


RECOMMENDATION: 

Approve the lease agreement with the Superior Watershed Partnership, and authorize the Mayor to sign the document.
