U.P. Beer Festival - Special Event Permit

BACKGROUND: 

The Michigan Brewers Guild, Inc. is requesting the City Commission enter into a five-year Special Event Permit for City Parks, Streets, Buildings and Grounds to use Mattson Lower Harbor Park for the U.P. Fall Beer Festival on September 9 and 10, 2022; September 8 and 9, 2023; and September 6 and 7, 2024, September 5 and 6, 2025, September 11 and 12, 2026.  Staff worked with the City Attorney and the Michigan Brewers Guild, Inc. to develop the permit.

 

This permit includes an alternative event location if park conditions are not suitable due to weather.  Lakeview Arena parking lot will be the alternative site and this decision will be made on the Thursday prior to each year's event.

 

Additionally, Community Services, Public Works and the Police Department are all working together to monitor the event to ensure no park damage occurs. 


FISCAL EFFECT: 
The General Fund will receive $1,940 plus miscellaneous in-kind reimbursements with the rental.

RECOMMENDATION: 
Approve the Special Event Permit for City Parks, Streets, Buildings and Grounds with the Michigan Brewers Guild, Inc., and authorize the Mayor and Clerk to sign the agreement.

As determined by the Commission.
