The City of Marquette Public Works Department routinely maintains the stormwater system in the City, and the stormwater detention basins located in the City are part of that system. Detention basins fail by design if they are working properly. As the stormwater flows through the basin, the particles settle out in the basin and once enough sediment builds up, the sediment must be removed as part of routine maintenance. The detention basin located at the corner of McClellan Avenue and Fair Avenue is currently in need of having sediment removed.

The Public Works Department does not own a long reach excavator needed to remove the sediment, and staff has requested quotes for the work. Staff has reviewed the only quote received, and feel it is reasonable.
