BACKGROUND:

Following a public process, Superior Kayaking has successfully operated a kayak tour service at Presque Isle Park for the last four years.

Superior Kayaking Company, LLC has requested that the City Commission renew their lease. The parking and section of beach is located near the Superior Watershed Partnership offices outlined in the attached map. It should be noted the parking spaces are not exclusive to Superior Kayaking. Staff has worked with the City Attorney and Superior Kayaking Company to draft a standard lease agreement which provides for the terms and conditions of the request. The monthly payment will be $147. The term of the lease is four months.

Staff intends to put this sole concessionaire out for proposals again in 2022.

The proposed lease agreement was introduced at the Commission's June 28, 2021 meeting and approved as recommended to move the lease agreement forward to the July 12, 2021 meeting.

FISCAL EFFECT:

The General Fund will receive $588 in 2021 with approval of the lease agreement.

RECOMMENDATION:

Approve the lease agreement with Superior Kayaking Company, LLC for parking and beach space at Presque Isle Park for a period of four months at the rate of $147 per month, and authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to sign the agreement.

ALTERNATIVES:

As determined by the Commission.
